Leadership and Service with Deep Eugene Roots

Thomas Hiura is a multimedia producer & small business owner, a nonprofit leader with the City Club of Eugene and WOW Hall, a trivia author & host, and a Human Rights Commissidoner. 

Born in Japan and raised on River Road since age 2, Thomas has spent decades advocating for students in the north Eugene area. A Eugene Future First Citizen award recipient, Thomas is passionate about education and entrepreneurship’s intersections with the arts, new media storytelling and grassroots journalism. In 2022-23, he co-led the Springfield History Museum’s ILLUMINATION project on Asian-American oral histories from our community, and in 2024, he co-led the effort to complete much needed roof repair on the historic WOW Hall. He holds a B.A. from Carleton College in American Studies, and certificates in music and modern journalism from New York University.

Eugene schools paved the way for Thomas’ success, and now we need all hands on deck to protect and improve public education for future generations.

Thomas has an extensive background in education, student services, and public engagement.
